Lifestyle factors have a profound effect on the health of our Brain at all stages of development. As with all other aspects of our physical health, we want to enhance the health span of our brain for as long as we can. Increasing evidence now suggests that many processes of cognitive decline can be delayed or avoided through lifestyle modifications. further, evidence is now supporting the idea that what we do in mid life, has a great impact on how our brains age in later life. By focussing on the eight domains of health, we are investing in our brain health. Not only do most of us hope to live as long as possible, but it’s important to also be interested in how to live as well as possible into old age. Two things that really strip people of quality of life as they age, are reduced ability to mobilise and deterioration in cognitive health.
Undertstanding and embracing neuro-diversity and vulnerability in schools, workplaces, health care settings and the community at large, can improve inclusivity and benefit individual and societal progress as we celebrate the strengths of these different views, talents and communication and learning styles.
