Wildcraft is a family run, heart-led business established in 2019 by Sepp and Paula from their home in Tasmania. Together, they craft ceremonial grade cacao from ethically sourced, single origin Peruvian cacao beans. Wildcraft Cacao is minimally processed (fermented, sun dried and then stone ground) with nothing added or removed from the bean. Wildcraft undertake mineral and metals tests on their cacao beans to ensure no traces of lead and below safe levels of cadmium (both of which are often found in cacao products depending on the soil health and location of growing).
Ceremonial cacao is the least processed form of cacao and thus retains the highest nutritional benefits. Traditionally used for its medicinal and spiritual offerings, modern science supports the heart opening and mood boosting effects of cacao. Boasting high levels of antioxidants, flavonoids, mood enhancing neurotransmittors and essential minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc, ceremonial cacao also makes a wonderful alternative to coffee due to it high levels of Theobromine. This bioactive compound, produces a similar boost in energy and focus to caffeine, however theombromine’s effects tend to take a smoother and gentler course on the body, avoiding the crash that can be experienced with caffeine a few hours after consumption. Unlike caffeine, theobromine is not a nervous system stimulant, so it doesn’t produce the jittery feeling that many people experience after drinking a coffee. Theobromine is thought to be cardio-protective through its impact on vasodilation and is also long revered as a powerful aphrodisiac.
Due to gentle effects on energy and mental clarity, drinking cacao is often associated with a sense of calm which makes it a beautiful ally in a breath work, mindfulness or meditation practice.
Importantly, in addition to being nutritious and medicinal, ceremonial cacao is also delicious. Not only can you brew it with water or your milk of choice, you can pimp it with spices, mushroom tinctures and adaptogens to boost it’s healthful impacts and you can also create decadent snacks and desserts.
Brewing and enjoying a hot cup of cacao is a wonderful addition to a morning, afternoon or evening ritual practice.
